This Defender 90, known to us as Olive, was commissioned for a customer based on Coronado, the small island off the coast of San Diego. Built to live where the bridge meets the beach, it features a bikini soft top to match the year-round California sun.

The customer wanted a Beach build that stayed true to the Defender's original character. No reinvention. Just the classic Land Rover at its honest best, properly restored.

The drivetrain specified a fully rebuilt original 300TDi engine paired with an automatic transmission. The factory drivetrain was kept and brought back to life. Reliable, capable, and exactly the way Land Rover designed it. The Shoreline Dynamic Ride suspension upgrade and rear anti-roll bar refine the handling without ever taking away from the original feel.

The body was finished in Black Olive, paired with a Sand bikini canvas soft top, half height front doors, a galvanized heavy duty hood stick set, and 16-inch deep dish steel wheels in Cream on Cooper STT Pro tires. A classic silver front grille with body color headlight surrounds, silver aluminum trim throughout, and a stainless steel exterior bolt kit finish the exterior. Steel wheels, not alloys. A bikini soft top is the most open version of the Beach build, shading the front cabin while leaving the back of the load bay completely exposed to the elements. Less coverage, more sun.

Inside, the cabin was built around Barley fluted leather. Front classic single-post seats and four individual rear seats in the load bay with seat belts. Full Barley leather covers the dashboard, gauge binnacle, fuse box cover, door cards, sun visors, and gaiters. A teak load bay finishes the rear, paired with a fluted Barley cubby box housing a removable Bluetooth speaker. Aluminum door handles, gear and transfer knobs, and a wood steering wheel with quick release finish the cabin. Front air conditioning is standard.
