The Shoreline Modern Edition is the most contemporary Defender we build. Sleeker stance, alloy wheels, modern color palette, refined finish.

A classic Defender, dressed for the way we drive now.

We build the Modern for the customer who wants their Defender to look current. Not stripped back like the Beach. Not period-correct like the Heritage. Not aggressive like the Villain. Something in between, with a more refined and contemporary feel.

The exterior leans modern. Alloy wheels, modern style grille, matching headlight surrounds, a cleaner color palette, and a smoother overall stance. The kind of Defender that holds its own next to a new G-Wagon or Range Rover at the valet.

Inside, this is the most tech-forward Shoreline we make. Heated Recaro front seats, Alcantara roof lining, full leather throughout, and a 3.0 sound system with subwoofer. A discreet in-dash touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and DAB. Stage two soundproofing keeps the cabin quiet. Modern enough to feel current. Honest enough to still feel like a Defender.

The Modern is also the edition where most engine work happens. An upgraded TD5 is a popular choice for a stronger highway drive. For customers who want to go further, an LS3 V8, EcoBoost, or EV conversion turns this into the most contemporary Defender we build.

Engineered For The Drive

Dynamic ride suspension, Shoreline LOF big brake upgrade, XTR2 alloy wheels with Cooper STT Pro tires. Engine options include an upgraded TD5, or LS3 V8, EcoBoost, and EV conversions for a fully modern drivetrain.

What goes into our Modern Defender

Every Shoreline Modern Edition starts with a donor. That is the term we use for an original Defender 90 or Defender 110 sourced from Europe or the United States, the foundation that every Shoreline build is rebuilt from. We strip it back to the bare chassis and rebuild from there. The original drivetrain is fully reconditioned, or replaced with a different engine if the customer prefers a swap. The brakes and suspension are upgraded. The body is stripped, prepped, and refinished by hand.

The Modern is the edition where most engine work happens. Many of our recent Modern builds use an upgraded TD5, a popular choice that gives the Defender stronger pickup and a smoother highway drive without departing from the original character. For customers who want a true Defender restomod, an LS3 V8, EcoBoost, or EV conversion can be specified for a fully modern drivetrain and a Defender automatic option. Paired with the Shoreline LOF big brake upgrade and dynamic ride suspension, every Modern is built to drive with a confidence the original could never offer.

Outside, the Modern is built around a more contemporary look. XTR2 18-inch alloy wheels in a finish of the customer's choosing, modern style or mesh front grille, matching headlight surrounds, and a clean exterior with extended arches and side runner steps. Optional upgrades include a full roof rack with rear ladder, checker plate kit, and contrast color roof in gloss or matte for customers who want to add more visual character.

Inside, this is the most refined and tech-forward Shoreline we make. Full extended leather throughout the interior, heated Recaro front seats, Alcantara style roof lining, and stage two soundproofing for a noticeably quieter cabin. The in-dash screen runs Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and DAB, and the 3.0 sound system with subwoofer delivers more output than any other Shoreline build.

Available as Defender 90 Hard Top, Defender 90 Soft Top, Defender 110 Hard Top, or Defender 110 Soft Top. The optional TDCI Puma dashboard adds a final layer of refinement for customers who want a more modern dash layout.
