Sunset

This Defender 90, known to us as Sunset, was commissioned for a customer who lives in Miami Beach and summers in the Hamptons. A coastal year-round driver built around exactly how this customer actually uses the car, from beach access roads to summer drives down country lanes.

The drivetrain featured the original, fully reconditioned Land Rover V8 engine paired with the original manual transmission. The customer wanted to keep what made this Defender what it was, with the Shoreline Dynamic Ride suspension, steering upgrade, brake upgrade, and anti-roll bar dialing in the handling underneath.

The body was finished in Keswick Green, one of the most recognizable colors in the classic Land Rover palette. Paired with a Sand canvas soft top, half height front doors with exposed painted frames, a galvanized bumper, and a hood-mounted spare tire that gives the build a true beach runner feel. A classic silver front grille with body-color headlight surrounds, and silver aluminum trim throughout. Two soft tops are included, the full length canvas and a bikini style, so the customer can run the car as open as the day calls for.

The detail that ties it all together sits in the rear. A storage compartment shaped like a vintage gas canister, painted in matching Keswick Green, mounted to the body. It doubles as a usable storage box and adds to the rugged beach runner character that defines this build.

Inside, the cabin was built around vintage chocolate fluted leather. Front fluted seats and a 2x bench rear seat with twix backs, all finished with lap seat belts and an Isofix seat strap for the family side of the build. Leather across the dashboard, door cards, sun visors, and gaiters. Aluminum door handles wrapped in leather, gear and transfer knobs, and a wood steering wheel with quick release.

Every detail in the cabin was specified for real coastal use. Two cupholders sized to fit Yeti mugs. A hidden lockbox sits inside for stashing a wallet or valuables at the beach. The Marshall Bluetooth speaker is dash mounted and removable. A teak deck finishes the load bay, and a center jump seat adds an extra spot when the family is rolling deep. Front air conditioning and a starter motor immobilizer switch complete the build.
